“The name Fuchs has stood for innovative loading machine concepts for over 130 years.” source: terex.com

Fuchs has a well-known and long history of creating innovative products designed for material handling. Today, Fuchs is owned by Terex Corporation. Fuchs builds state-of-the-art material handling machines that are either diesel-powered or electric powered.  National Equipment Dealers, sell and supports new and used Fuchs material handlers in Texas and other branch locations in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

Over the last several years in a row, Four Seasons Equipment, now NED, LLC, has been recognized by Fuchs as the top dealer in Texas. Why is this? Well, part of it is attributed to an outstanding product, that is packed with features, operator comfort, proven performance, and reliability. Another reason is the sales and customer support provided by Four Seasons Equipment.

Trey Beck, Regional Sales Manager for Texas and Louisiana is focused primarily on the recycling, demolition, waste, and forestry markets throughout his assigned territory. We sat down with Trey for a quick interview to better understand how he became the number one Fuchs salesman in the country and why his customers prefer the Fuchs product and Four Seasons Equipment’s support.

Selling Material Handling and Scrap Equipment

The scrap and material handling industry requires a very technically-oriented sales consultant. According to Trey, “Every customer has a unique set of problems that needs to be solved. In this industry, the customer typically has something they need a solution for, and that’s where I come in. Being trusted by your customers to come up with their solution is very satisfying.”

Most Popular Fuchs Model

According to Trey, the Fuchs MHL350 is the most popular model in Texas and Louisiana, due to its optimal weight-to-reach ratio. “The MHL350 has the best production capability for the medium-to-large scrap customer,” said Trey. “The MHL350 can be equipped with a grapple, ranging from 1 to 1¼ cubic yard capacity, and 58” size magnets work well with this machine.”

Industry Growth and Trends

“Given the need for the country’s infrastructure growth and maintenance, recycled steel will be in high demand for these projects. The MHL350 is ideal for feeding shredders and stationary shears,” explained Trey.

Scrap Industry Challenges

We asked Trey about some of the difficulties and unique equipment challenges that face scrap and recycling operations. Trey explained, “The most challenging thing encountered in the scrap business is equipment downtime. Unlike construction, the scrap business is a commodities business, which means scrap prices can change daily and drastically. When you can’t load material, equipment downtime can equate to losses of thousands of dollars per day.”

The NED Advantage

NED, LLC. NED spans across five states and supports customers with fourteen locations. The company’s size and financial capability ensure industry-leading buying power and excellent parts and service capability. Also, NED Texas, is very focused on the scrap and recycling industry, unlike many other construction equipment distributors. We are fortunate to have a service manager, Lloyd Click, who spent many years maintaining and servicing material handling equipment for NED and other companies throughout his career. “From a sales perspective,” Trey said. “I come from the service side, having been a service technician for over 6 years. With me, you get a salesman that also knows how to and does work on the equipment I sell. I am not there just for the sale; I am also there to support the product.”

Trey’s Top-3 Fuchs Advantages

  1. In-line, high pressure, attachment filters. In the event that the grapple cylinders or the rotator are damaged from being forced into scrap piles, the in-line filters protect the hydraulic pumps from harmful contamination.
  2. Dual slewing ring and sealed turntable bearing. The swing gear and swing motor gear are not exposed to dust and debris like other machines.
  3. The Fuchs operator’s cab. The sliding cab door makes cab entry and exit much easier and safer than the swinging cab door of the other machines. The Fuchs cab is also very spacious as compared to other brands of material handlers. The joystick steering and single front glass, maximize operator convenience and visibility.
