Hyundai’s all-new HL940A was originally introduced at ConExpo 2020.  Production units have now arrived and are available at many of our National Equipment Dealers locations.

This innovative new model improves upon the popular HL940 model, which did well with contractors over the past five years.  The new HL940A is an all-new model with many innovative improvements, but there are a few that stand out and make it a “great buy” for general contractors.  Here are five reasons to consider adding the new Hyundai HL940A to your fleet.

1) A better view leads to fewer accidents and improved safety.

The new HL940A features a newly designed engine hood that tapers in on each side to improve rear corner visibility for the operator.  Another nice improvement that enhances visibility is an upgraded rearview camera with improved night-time, low-light capability. This camera is viewable through the interactive 7-inch touchscreen color monitor.

The newly designed engine hood improves left and right rear visibility.

An optional 360-degree view camera system with dynamic object detection, also known as AAVM (All Around View Monitoring) keeps operators aware of moving and static objects within the machine working range. The new A-Series can also be equipped from the factory with an optional rear radar detection system called Hi-Detect.  This system provides guidelines and proximity warning alarms to the operator that increase in frequency when backing up and approaching an object

2) Knowing your weight reduces waste and improves your bottom line.

An onboard weighing system is not new to Hyundai’s wheel loader lineup.  However, the new A-Series weighing system is now easier to use and has improved productivity tracking features.  Now operators can save their individual names in a project folder along with truck names, material types, and other information.  This helps contractors to better track individual operator productivity and tonnage moved, according to different material types.  Productivity information can be downloaded to a USB drive and it is also uploaded to Hyundai’s proprietary and free telematics platform, HiMATE.

3) Controlled and level lifting improves productivity and safety.

Hyundai’s HL940A features an all-new loader linkage design with improved geometry that facilitates a level lift cycle.  Now operators can enjoy the benefits of the higher breakout force of Z-Bar linkage with the added convenience of parallel lifting control.  When working with pallet forks or other material handling attachments, this new parallel lift feature contributes to improved safety and enhanced productivity on the job site.

4) A comfortable operator is a happy operator.

The new HL940A operator’s cab is uniquely designed to custom fit just about any size of operator.  The steering wheel tilts and telescopes for optimum comfort.  The seat console can be adjusted in many different ways.  The operator’s seat is equipped with heat, air suspension, and adjustable lumbar support.

The multi-function joystick control console and armrest can be adjusted forward, backward, up, and down.  The joystick controller rides with the seat so that the operator can maintain control at all times.

All cabs are equipped with Bluetooth radios and hands-free calling.  The cabs also feature a powerful air conditioner with auto temperature control.  The smooth electric-over-hydraulic joystick control has an integrated forward-neutral-reverse switch, horn, kick-down gear-shift button, and a proportional-control attachment switch.  The electric over hydraulic control sensitivity can now be customized from within the monitor by a service technician, to better match the hydraulic speed and control responsiveness of the bucket and boom to machine application requirements.

5) A cleaner and more fuel-efficient engine with more power is a good thing.

Hyundai’s new A-Series model lineup uses all Cummins Performance Series, turbo diesel engines, that comply with the latest Tier-4 final and Stage V emissions standards.  The HL940A features a B6.7 engine with 154 net horsepower.  The new emissions system no longer includes exhaust gas recirculation [EGR] to achieve emissions compliance.  Now a cleaner solution is used, which combines a diesel oxidation catalyst [DOC], plus a diesel particulate filter [DPF], and a selective catalytic reduction [SCR] system, along with a variable geometry turbocharger [VGT] and an intake throttle valve [ITV].  This sounds complicated, but bottom line, the engine runs cleaner, and when combined with Hyundai’s new Smart Mode, the HL940A is three to five percent more fuel-efficient than the previous model.  Also, the downtime associated with a manual regeneration process that some contractors may have experienced with older Tier 4 interim machines is no longer an issue. As long as the machine is running and operating and not idling excessively, a passive regeneration process should maintain proper soot levels while operating normally, without requiring a machine shut-down for a regen cycle.  This is a huge time and productivity saver for owners and operators.
